Interim Dean Community Announcement - Centre for Black Studies in Education

Date:

Dear OISE Faculty, Staff and Students,

I am very pleased to announce the establishment of the Centre for Black Studies in Education (CBSE) that was approved at the December 15, 2021 meeting of OISE Council to take effect January 1, 2022. My thanks to the entire Black Faculty Caucus for their tireless efforts in creating this Centre that will be a site to engage in research, support students, and harness the knowledge and scholarship of Black scholars. It will be a salient tool in responding to antiblackness, anti-Black racism and the structural inequities that face Black people in all aspect of Canadian life, and in particular education.

At this time, I am also announcing the appointment of Dr. Amal Madibbo as the Founding Director of the Centre for Black Studies in Education effective February 1, 2022. Amal will be responsible for setting up the Centre and launching the research and outreach activities.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our entire community of black faculty, staff, students, and alumni who have worked so hard to envision and bring about such an important centre here at OISE.

Thank you,

Normand Labrie, Ph.D., FRSC
Professor and Interim Dean
